Metallicity, planetary formation and migration

چکیده
Recent observations show a clear correlation between the probability of hosting a planet and the metallicity of the parent star. Since radial velocity surveys are biased, however, towards detecting planets with short orbital periods, the probabilitymetallicity correlation could merely reflect a dependence of migration rates on metallicity. We investigated the possibility, but find no basis to suggest that the migration process is sensitive to the metallicity. The indication is, therefore, that a higher metallicity results in a higher probability for planet formation.

Quantifying orbital migration from exoplanet statistics and host metallicities
We investigate how the statistical distribution of extrasolar planets may be combined with knowledge of the host stars’ metallicity to yield constraints on the migration histories of gas giant planets. At any radius, planets that barely manage to form around the lowest metallicity stars accrete their envelopes just as the gas disk is being dissipated, so the lower envelope of planets in a plot ...
متن کاملA link between the semimajor axis of extrasolar gas giant planets and stellar metallicity
The fact that most extrasolar planets found to date are orbiting metal-rich stars lends credence to the core accretion mechanism of gas giant planet formation over its competitor, the disk instability mechanism. However, the core accretion mechanism is not refined to the point of explaining orbital parameters such as their unexpected semimajor axes and eccentricities. We propose a model, which ...
متن کاملSpectroscopic Abundance Analysis of Dwarfs in Young Open Cluster Ic4665
We report a detailed spectroscopic abundance analysis for a sample of 18 F-K dwarfs of the young open cluster IC 4665. Stellar parameters and element abundances of Li, O, Mg, Si, Ca, Ti, Cr, Fe and Ni have been derived using the spectroscopic synthesis tool SME (Spectroscopy Made Easy). Within the measurement uncertainties the iron abundance is uniform with a standard deviation of 0.04dex. No c...
متن کاملPlanet Formation around Stars of Various Masses: Hot Super-earths
We consider trends resulting from two formation mechanisms for short-period super-Earths: planetplanet scattering and migration. We model scenarios where these planets originate near the snow line in “cold finger” circumstellar disks. Low-mass planet-planet scattering excites planets to low periastron orbits only for lower mass stars. With long circularisation times, these planets reside on lon...
متن کاملChemical Models of the Protoplanetary Disks for Extrasolar Planetary
Introduction: It is widely known that extrasolar planetary host stars are, to some degree, chemically anomalous. Spectroscopic studies of these stars have revealed that the metallicity of the host star is higher than that of other F, G and K type stars not known to harbor planetary companions (e.g. [1-3]). Trends may also exist in the abundance of Li, C, N, [4] Na, Mg and Al [5]. One aspect of ...
